SWIMMING POOL SAFETY IN MONROE TOWNSHIP
ALL POOLS GREATER THAN 24 INCHES IN HEIGHT REQUIRE AN INSTALLATION PERMIT ISSUED THROUGH THE CONSTRUCTION DEPARTMENT. THE FOLLOWING CODE EXERPTS WERE PROVIDED BY THEM:
2015 INTERNATIONAL POOL AND SPA CODE
305.2 OUTDOOR SWIMMING POOLS AND SPAS.
OUTDOOR POOLS AND SPAS AND INDOOR POOLS SHALL BE SURROUNDED BY A BARRIER THAT COMPLIES WITH SECTIONS 305.2.1 THROUGH 305.7
105.1 PERMITS WHEN REQUIRED
ANY OWNER OR OWNERS’ AUTHORIZED AGENT WHO DESIRES TO CONSTRUCT, ENLARGE, ALTER, REPAIR, MOVE OR DEMOLISH A POOL OR SPA OR TO ERECT, INSTALL, ENLARGE, ALTER, REPAIR, REMOVE, CONVERT OR REPLACE ANY SYSTEM, THE INSTALLATION OF WHICH IS REGULATED BY THIS CODE, OR TO CAUSE ANY SUCH WORK TO BE PERFORMED SHALL FIRST MAKE APPLICATION TO THE CODE OFFICIAL AND OBTAIN THE REQUIRED PERMIT FOR THE WORK.
ALL SWIMMING POOLS WILL REQUIRE SOME TYPE OF PERMIT.

SWIMMING POOL BY DEFINITION (CHAPTER 2 2015 INTERNATIONAL BUILDING CODE)
ANY STRUCTURE INTENDED FOR SWIMMING, RECREATIONAL BATHING OR WADING THAT CONTAINS WATER OVER 24 INCHES (610 MM) DEEP. THIS INCLUDES IN-GROUND, ABOVE GROUND, AND ON-GROUND POOLS; SPAS AND FIXED-IN-PLACE WADING POOLS.
